Number of Baby Boomers Selling Businesses Is Expected to Increase 15-Fold by 2013
Business Brokerage and M&A Firm Expands Services to help Owners Get Top Dollar for Their Companies
NEW YORK (June 19, 2008) – As baby boomer entrepreneurs near retirement, a flurry of owners are expected to put their businesses up for sale, possibly creating a glut in the marketplace. To best enable clients to get the highest possible price for their business, New York Business Brokerage Inc. – specialists in the confidential sale, acquisition and valuation of privately held businesses – now offers a robust valuation program, providing owners with the Most Probable Selling Price as they consider their exit strategies.
In preparation, NYBB Principal Anthony J. Citrolo, CPA, CVA, CBI, recently completed certification with the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA), earning his designation as a Certified Valuation Analyst. The rigorous certification process is open only to licensed Certified Public Accountants who meet the association’s intensive standards of professionalism, expertise, objectivity and integrity in the field of business valuation, litigation support and related consulting disciplines.
CVAs must maintain at least a minimum number of hours of continuing professional education annually (in most states this is 40 hours) and conduct themselves within the ethical mandates established by the profession. NACVA also requires that CVAs obtain at least 12 hours of Continuing Professional Education coursework each year in areas related to business valuation and/or litigation consulting, and periodically participate in programs sponsored by the association promoting quality and adherence to industry standards.
By completing the program, Citrolo is fostering deep ties with regional business owners who want to know the full dollar value of their businesses before placing them on the market. “Many owners have spent a lifetime growing their businesses,” Citrolo said. “It’s critical that they understand their company’s value so that they can best determine how to command the highest price for their firm.”
